• 17 of the 53 dates in 2027 land on a Saturday or Sunday — 32% of them, which is roughly what chance alone would give you.
• Sunday is the busiest weekday of 2027, carrying 12 of the 53 dates.

Which weekday gets the most dates

The same year, 2027, counted by weekday rather than by date. It answers a question no calendar shows you directly: how much of the year’s calendar happens to fall on a weekend, and how much of it lands mid-week where it costs you a day of leave.

Fixed dates, rules and moon sightings

Three kinds of date sit in these tables, and the difference is not cosmetic — it decides how far ahead the date can be trusted.

Fixed calendar dates never move. Christmas, Halloween, New Year’s Day and most national days are written into the calendar as a month and a day, so they can be computed for any year at all. Only the weekday changes, and that is exactly what the weekday column is for.

Weekday rules are fixed in a different way: the fourth Thursday in November, the second Sunday in May, the first Monday in September. The rule never changes, so the date is predictable, but it moves within a window of seven days from year to year — which is why the holidays built on rules cannot be memorised as dates.

Moon and computus dates are the ones that genuinely need a published list. Easter follows the ecclesiastical full moon after the equinox, and a chain of feasts hangs off it. Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Chinese New Year can be set by observation, and a calculated date would be confidently wrong. The seasons are a fourth case that looks like the first: solstices and equinoxes are astronomical instants, so they land on a slightly different date and time each year and cannot be pinned to “the 21st”.

What the table cannot tell you

Which day you actually get off. The tables carry the calendar date, not the observed one. When a fixed holiday falls on a weekend, most countries shift the day off — the FAQ below has the American and British rules — and shifting rules differ by employer as well as by country.

Whether your country keeps the date. Where a holiday is kept on different days in different countries, each one has its own page here rather than a footnote in a shared row. The clock and calendar group is the sharpest example: the clock-change dates in these tables are the American ones, and the European Union changes on other weekends entirely.

The exact number of days from right now. A static table can only count from the day it was generated.
