When exactly is Good Friday?
Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus and falls two days before Easter Sunday, so it moves with Easter — anywhere between 20 March and 23 April in the Western calendar.
It is a public holiday in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, much of Latin America and dozens of other countries, but not a federal holiday in the United States, where observance varies by state and employer. Where it is observed, expect closed banks, reduced public transport and, in several German states, a legal ban on public dancing.

Frequently asked questions
When is Good Friday?
Good Friday falls on the Friday before Easter Sunday.
Why is a day marking a crucifixion called “good”?
“Good” here carries its older English sense of holy or pious, the same sense preserved in “the good book”. Several other languages name the day for the events instead: German uses Karfreitag, from a root meaning sorrow or mourning, and much of Southern Europe calls it Holy Friday.
