When exactly is International Women's Day?
International Women’s Day is held on 8 March, a date fixed in 1921 to commemorate a 1917 women’s strike in Petrograd that helped trigger the February Revolution — the Russian calendar of the day placed it on 23 February, which was 8 March in the Gregorian calendar the rest of Europe used.
It is a full public holiday in around two dozen countries, including Ukraine, Vietnam, Cuba and much of Central Asia, and a working day marked by campaigns and events almost everywhere else. The United Nations has recognised it since 1977.
